Five Forty Aviation Limited, commonly known as 540 is a Kenyan company which was established in 2005 and commenced operations in November 2006. Fly540 Aviation acquired a strategic partnership with the Lonrho Plc conglomerate.
Fly540 recognised there was need for a low cost carrier to meet the demand for value for money travel. So the airline decided on this “no frills” model as this has been successful in other parts of the world as seen with Ryan Air and Easy Jet in Europe and the United States of America respectively. We are the first low cost airline in this region as the only other low cost carriers in Africa are found in South Africa serving domestic routes. Our low cost airline business gives us the ability to offer travel at affordable prices which benefit our customer within Africa.
Our first flights were between Nairobi and Mombasa using ATR 42-320 turbo prop aircraft. In less than a year the airline added services to Malindi, Lamu, Vipingo Ridge, Kisumu, Kakamega, Lodwar and Eldoret. The airline’s value for money flights won instant popularity and Fly540 now has 12 destinations in Kenya with regional services to, Entebbe, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Southern Sudan.
Our aircrafts are maintained by our very experienced engineers and technicians who have extensive training internationally and locally in addition to having a wide experience and are licensed to practice by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), Uganda civil aviation (CAA) as well as the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The company employs a dynamic service oriented team, who are well trained to offer the highest levels of service to our customers. The senior management team comprises of highly qualified Kenyan staff with many years experience with both international and domestic airlines, in the region and overseas. These are Mr. Don Smith, Chief Executive Officer, with over 20 years experience in commercial aviation in East Africa, and Mr. Nixon Ooko, Operations Director all with over 30 years experience with international airlines.
During the East African Community Investment Conference held in Kampala two years ago, Fly540 was recognised for its rapid expansion of air services in the East African region. The airline was also honoured for contributing to economic growth through its investment in the region. 540 has continued to expand its wings with Operational flights in Tanzania, Southern African region with Angola as its hub for Southern Africa, Ghana for the Western parts of Africa .
The airline has received wonderful support from customers and the travel trade for the introduction of low fares on every flight, everyday regardless of the season and the response is very encouraging. The feedback has confirmed the validity of our market research that there is demand for simple point to point travel in Kenya and neighbouring countries at this time of economic growth.
Fly540.com is the name of our website. It is a digital style name that is trendy and our passengers can access the information they require from this website as well as book flights on line. The name also links with our slogan “Simplify” and our aim is to make travel as easy and as pleasant as possible.
A combination of these factors and the fact that we will always strive to provide safe, reliable value for money services makes us very optimistic about the steady expansion of Fly540.
