Situated on the northern coastline, Lamu Island is Kenya’s oldest continually inhabited town. It was founded in the 14th century and features on the World Heritage List as “the oldest and best-preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa”. 


Lamu is famed for its architecture built in coral stone and mangrove timber with features such as inner courtyards, verandas, and elaborately carved wooden doors. 


There are several museums and many attractions, including: Lamu Fort, Mnarani Mosque, Riyadha Mosque and the Donkey Sanctuary.
